1. Bags of 50g each of Silica Gel and E-sorb MD were used in the test.
2. Test in Climate Chamber
One bag each of Silica Gel and TE-sorb MD were placed in a climate chamber
and weighed once each 24th
The temperature and the relative humidity were measured from time to time
and were found to be within
Temperature = +/-10%
Relative Humidity = +/-5%
For the first part of the test the Relative Humidity was maintained at 80%.
After 9 days, when both the samples had saturated the
Relative Humidity was increased to 95%.
The bag of Silica Gel was inadvertedly destroyed in an
attempt to dry it after 9 days.
3. Test under Realistic Temperature Cycle
A metal container was placed outside.
Outside temperature varied between 0 and 15ï‚°C.
The Temperature and Relative Humidity was logged with a data logger.
Inside the container daily cycles occurred of:
Temperature = 0-35ï‚°C
Relative Humidity = 40-100%
One bag each of Silica Gel and E-sorb MD were placed inside and
weighed once every 12 hours.
4. Result in Brief
Under RH = 80% and T = 20ï‚°C
Silica Gel absorbs 20% of its weight
E-sorb MD absorbs 40% of its weight
Under RH = 95% and T = 20ï‚°C
E-sorb MD absorbs more than
50% of its weight
Under temperature cycling conditions
Silica Gel absorbs about 22%
E-sorb MD absorbs about 35%
The Silica Gel show a clear "saw tooth" pattern of
absorption/re-evaporation over the temperature cycle.
The E-sorb MD does not show such a pattern.
