GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE PROPER HANDLING
AND STORAGE OF HMT’s ADHESIVE PRODUCTS
To prevent contamination of HMT’s adhesive the following are the general
advisory on its proper handling, repacking and storage:
HANDLING:
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Before using, stir sufficiently with WOODEN PADDLE if electric mixer
is not available (approximately 5 minutes).
In the absence of wooden paddle, plastic scraper can be used in mixing adhesive in ½ kg, 1 kg and gallon container. Separate mixer must be used for each type of adhesive; they cannot be used interchangeably.
Each wooden paddle and plastic scraper used as mixer must be properly labeled
for what particular adhesive it is for, to avoid cross-transfer of chemicals
on each type of adhesive.
Use clean and separate repacking equipment like aluminum/stainless
steel scoopers or thick plastic dippers for each type of adhesive.
Clean surface well or clean container in case of repacking to avoid contamination.
Clean tools with water before the adhesive dries.
Keep container tightly closed after used.
REPACKING:
Use clean plastic container if possible with Plastic Liner for repacking purposes to
avoid physical contact of adhesive to plastic containers.
Use clean and separate tools like aluminum/stainless steel scoopers or
thick plastic dippers for each type of adhesive.
Each aluminum/stainless scooper and thick plastic dipper must be properly labeled
for what particular adhesive it is for to avoid cross-transfer of chemicals on each type of adhesive.
They cannot be used interchangeably.
Clean excess adhesive to avoid drying up that will cause
difficulty of lid opening.
STORAGE:
Keep adhesive in tightly closed container protected from direct heat to maintain quality.
Keep under room temperature (32° Celsius).
All HMT’s adhesive has a Shelf life of 6 months (minimum). After longer storage,
it is required to stir well the adhesive at least every 3-4 weeks to re-establish the normal
consistency. Please take note of the correct usage of stirring material discussed above.
First IN – First OUT (FIFO) inventory method should be followed.
VISCOSITY/THICKNESS & BONDING STRENGTH:
Viscosity of adhesive varies from batch to batch that is why the standard
range of 8,000 – 12,000 cps has been established. Difference of viscosity
in each delivery does not matter at all as long as it is within the given range.
Viscosity of adhesive gradually increases as it ages while stocked in the warehouse.
But mixing/stirring the adhesive thoroughly will gradually reduce the viscosity.
Determining of Bonding Strengths of the adhesive cannot just
be claimed without any basis at all. There should be a test equipment
or simply chisel wood breakage test to attest the claim.
But as long as the adhesive meets its standard quality
specifications during preparation like Solid Contents,
Viscosity and Ph it is considered a good batch.
